The Review
The experience begins before you even arrive at the resort. The resort is so remote, it can only be reached by water taxi from Picton, or helicopter. The journey by water is an amazing experience jetting through the majestic tranquility of the Marlborough Sounds. You are likely to see dolphins, seals, native birds and other wildlife. On arrival at the Bay of Many Coves Resort, you will be warmly greeted by the owners Murray and Elaine, who will give you a tour of the resort and the surrounding environment.
The resort consists of 9 private villas dotted over a steep hillside. Each villa has a breathtaking, uninterrupted view over the bay and all-day sun. Designed in harmony with the coastal native bush environment and furnished to suit, their elevation and timber detailing give the feeling of being in a luxurious treehouse.
The resort prides itself on 3 areas – Exceptional Service, an incredible natural environment, and its food & wine, and it did not disappoint in any of these areas.
The flora and fauna are a real standout. Native birds are a common sight all day, a rare pleasure for those from the city.
The restaurant has a lovely ambience as you sit overlooking the view and enjoy sampling from a considered wine list that celebrates the best wine growing regions of New Zealand. The owners are passionate about wine and in particular the local sauvignon blanc which is highly regarded.
It was clear the chef has a real passion for creating original and thoughtful dishes which make use of local & sustainable produce as much as possible.
The owner’s ethos is based on the term “Te Papa” which is Maori for “Our Place”. They want you to feel as welcomed and at home as possible during your stay.
