What we look for
Independent or family-owned ownership. Not chain or corporate-resort properties.
Fewer than 100 rooms in most cases. Slightly larger properties considered where the editorial proposition justifies it.
A clear culinary, design, or curatorial point of view. Food and beverage that's been built around the property's identity. Architecture or interiors that carry genuine character. Service that knows what it is.
A sense of regional place. The property feels of where it is, not of nowhere in particular.
Emotional impact.
We assess against the same standard whether the nomination comes from the property itself, a previous guest, a travel writer, or an industry contact.
How the review works
Every nomination is read by our editorial team. Properties that meet the initial criteria are added to the review queue, where a member of the editorial team books and stays at the hotel and writes a full report against the 400-point standard. The report is reviewed by the editorial team and a decision is made on listing.
The full review process typically takes four to six weeks from nomination to decision. We respond to every nomination either way, regardless of outcome.
After a successful nomination
Hotels accepted into the Club are listed across the site with a full editorial review, photography, and access to our member booking inventory at the rates the Club has negotiated. The Club asks listed hotels to offer member-only rates that protect both the property's public-rate integrity and the value of Club membership. Listing details and the ongoing partnership are confirmed before the hotel page goes live.

Is your hotel a cut above the rest?
Hoteliers, travellers, and industry contacts can nominate boutique hotels for review by our editorial team. Every nomination is assessed against our 400-point standard across hospitality, design, food and beverage, service, and sense of place — the same standard we apply to every hotel listed in the Club. We list properties we'd stay at ourselves. Small, independent, with a clear point of view and genuine character. We turn down more nominations than we accept — the selection is one of the things our members are paying for, even when they're not paying. Nominations take around four to six weeks to review. We respond either way.
