Origins
Hacienda Xcanatun is the Mayan translation for 'Tall Stone House'. The owners, Jorge and Cristina Ruz, put their heart and soul into creating an authentic hacienda experience. With the help of the best local craftsmen, it took a gruelling 5 years to restore this abandoned 18th-century sisal hacienda well beyond its original grandeur.
Top Secret
The owners have deep ties to the Yucatán, so guests enjoy access to private gardens, artists’ studios and exhibitions not usually open to the general public.
The Review
For those looking to escape the stresses of everyday life, wanting to find peace and solace in a luxurious setting, look no further. The Hacienda Xcanatun prides itself on providing guests with ultimate privacy, as each room has its own private veranda or balcony and guests can let go of any worries, slung on their own hammock, whilst overlooking the blossoming gardens. Guest rooms are large in size, with high beamed ceilings, full-length windows, marble floors and incredibly comfortable beds.
Guests at the Hacienda Xcanatun are spoiled with hydrotherapy baths to soak in whilst reliving the memories made that day.
The resort has two freshwater swimming pools set in the gardens, with hammocks to lounge on and enjoy the tropical sunshine. For those who want to continue in this state of relaxation, the resort houses a spa, with 5 therapy rooms and a palapa area in the gardens. The spa offers holistic treatments to experience the restorative spirit of Yucatan, giving the perfect equilibrium to your mind and body.
Hacienda Xcanatun boasts a wonderful dining experience; especially in its restaurant, Casa de Piedra, also popular with the locals. The hotel offers several dining rooms and a romantic candlelit veranda for those wanting to dine alfresco. The chef excels in providing diners with a fusion of French techniques and the freshest Caribbean and Yucatecan ingredients. With meals that leave the senses stimulated and highly satisfied, guests cannot resist the memorable pastry desserts, and the extensive wine list impresses even the most experienced wine tasters.
Following dinner, guests can make their way over to the mahogany bar, where they are tempted to sample Xcanatun’s special cocktail, made with Xtabentun - a honey-based Yucatecan liquor. On weekends the bar and restaurant are filled with the sound of live music.
