Origins
The Pittas family from Cyprus opened the property with a few rooms in 1993. Over the years they purchased the surrounding fish-net warehouses and converted them into rooms. In 2003, the property was given out on a management contract. The hotel was renovated in 2015.
Top Secret
Rent a car and drive up to the Monastery of Prophet Elias, the highest point in Santorini, for 360 degree views of the island. On the way back stop at Santo Wines for a wine tasting experience with incredible sunset views.
The Review
IKIES Traditional House is everything you have imagined Santorini to be. The property has several levels of whitewashed cave houses (former fish-net warehouses) built into the cliff. The first glimpse here is of inviting sun-drenched terraces with pink bougainvillaeas and dramatic views of the famed caldera.
The property is a blend of traditional Cycladic architecture and modern facilities.
The interiors are white and grey with pops of art. The minimalist decor gives a feeling of spaciousness.
Walking out onto your suite’s private terrace is a treat with the stark contrast between the white décor of the village, the harsh volcanic islands and the blue sea. The terraces are where you will spend your day alternating between the hot tub and the day bed all the while gazing at the amazing view. Sunsets here are spectacular to say the least with pink skies framing a perfect picture over the sea and the village.
IKIES offers a limited number of common facilities, including free Wi-Fi, a small book library and a small but deep pool. As the property does not have a restaurant, all meals are served in the rooms with the backdrop of the stunning view. The Greek mezze platter is a must-have with local delicacies including grilled Octopus, feta, hummus and some of the best cherry tomatoes you will ever eat.
About a 10-minute walk from IKIES is the Oia promenade filled with boutiques, restaurants and blue-domed churches. If you choose to venture further, hire a car and visit one of the many villages or beaches.
