Origins
The hotel was a former woolstore and is one of the earliest of Victorian warehouse buildings making it an important contribution to the streetscape of Allen Street and Murray Street. You can view the hotel from various locations in central Sydney along the western line of Darling Harbour. It has a ‘saw tooth’ roof (a unique feature) and possibly the fourth oldest of the 21 woolstores surviving in Sydney to date. It is an unusual Victorian warehouse as it is still structurally intact and also for its Mannerist style in the main entrance doorway and pediment. The hotel relishes this history in the design, décor and as you talk to the proud staff.

Its close proximity to Sydney’s CBD with the added benefit of being far enough away to enjoy peace, makes it an ideal choice for those wanting to explore the city and close surrounds. It is a short walk to Pitt Street Mall and directly across the road from famous Darling Harbour which offers a plethora of dining and late-night activities.
The hotel has been designed from the traveller’s point of view, ensuring a generous supply of the most wonderful hotel amenities and that everything you want or need is at your fingertips. Ovolo refers to this as ‘effortless living’. Apple televisions keep you connected with your favourite series via iTunes, Stan or Netflix and allows you access to your own playlists. iPads are supplied in your room too as is a bedside USB connection. You can grab anything you desire from the mini bar without being concerned about your constantly growing incidentals bill. Luxurious linen, down toppers and pillows create the perfect sleep experience. Bliss.
You will enjoy dining in the hotel, particularly for their seamless and keep it simple approach. The Lo Lounge is where you eat breakfast and dinner. Breakfast is a simple approach of delicious and fresh fruits, artisan breads and other tasty bits and pieces. At night following complimentary canapes and drinks, you may choose to eat something from their ‘Nuevo Cuisine’ menu and sip on a glass from their international and carefully selected wine list.
Ovolo seem to have a great love of music and it is often mentioned with their mission being ‘Shiny, Happy People’ all round (think R.E.M). This is what they want to see, everywhere - walking in and out of their hotels, sitting at their desks in the office, they want everyone to be happy. That they say “is the ultimate achievement in life, after all”.
A key point of difference of this property is the historic significance of this building. The former wool store is one of the earliest examples in Sydney and many stay here to absorb and learn more of its historical roots. The design of the hotel and individual rooms will soon convey this resounding message, “Ovolo loves Art”. They feature various artworks by Australian Artist, Jasper Knight which contrast beautifully against the exposed walls and original beams.
