Origins
Charlotte’s historic Ivey’s building was designed by architect William H. Peeps in the early 1900s and was originally home to the J.B. Ivey & Company Department Store. After a recent multi-million dollar renovation, The Ivey’s Hotel became the third boutique hotel in The MRK Hotel Collection.
Top Secret
The Mint Museum Uptown provides complimentary admission to all Ivey’s Hotel guests. Don’t pass up a visit to this cultural Charlotte institution, with its ever-changing array of art and design exhibitions.
The Review
With its proliferation of historic architecture, high-class museums and fine eateries, Charlotte is a hub of activity with charm to spare. The Ivey’s Hotel is one of its many gems, located just one block from the city’s historic central intersection of Tryon and Trade Streets in the central Uptown neighbourhood. A luxury boutique getaway with a firmly Francophile spirit, the Ivey’s combines sleek and gleaming brand-new fixtures with imported antiques and 400-year-old French oak floors. Little touches of opulence include claw-foot baths and Art Deco detailing, along with Frette Italian bedding in all the 42 rooms.
The Ivey’s fitness centre is open 24 hours a day, with 1,500 square feet of state-of-the-art exercise equipment, along with an area for floor work, weight-lifting and yoga. The interiors follow a French theme, with retro advertisements, antique finds and one-off artworks to enjoy throughout. After a long day of exploring the city, you might want to relax and unwind in the hotel’s Library Lounge – panelled with wood and lined with a wide range of novels, this cosy spot is a good place to snack on charcuterie and cheese with a wine pairing.
The hotel’s central location means that you are just a stone’s throw from Charlotte’s wealth of cultural and sporting institutions – the Nascar Hall of Fame Museum, the Mint Museum, the Blumenthal Performing Arts Centre and the BB&T Ballpark, among others. The nearest trolley stop is five minutes away on foot – so it’s easy to get to the trendy breweries of NoDa or the independent boutique shops of Plaza Midwood.
