The rundown buildings and alleyways of Borgo Castelfalfi are being renovated since 2007, with the new 5-star Hotel Il Castelfalfi constructed in 2017 only a short stroll from the hilltop castle town, designed to blend in with the low key surroundings.

The Review
After a stunning drive through farms, sunflower fields and olive trees, we arrived at the hotel to be welcomed by a cold towel and refreshing glass of homemade lemonade by the friendly reception staff. After a casual lunch at the poolside cafe overlooking the Tuscan valley below, we were ushered to the winery to meet Vito the sommelier. He took us on a wine tasting journey that explained the natural flavours of the local Sangiovese grapes, accompanied by some excellent cured meat and cheese snacks.
La Rocca restaurant sits wrapped around the walls of the Castelfalfi castle, which provides a breathtaking view of the sunset over Tuscany’s beautiful countryside. With a distinctive misty light that changes colour as the sun moves beyond the horizon, it is a dinner set to be remembered forever.
After a wonderful nights’ sleep with the windows open to appreciate the distinctive sounds of crickets chirping in the warm summer air, we settled down for a long and slow breakfast at outdoor tables of the hotel restaurant. Choosing between the wide array of breakfast options may briefly disturb you from your relaxed state of mind, but a proper Italian espresso overlooking the magnificent views will immediately restore your state of zen.
Spend the day challenging yourself at the beautiful Mountain View Golf Course, where the dramatic scenery if of lush green fairways winding between the olive trees, lakes and forests. Prepare yourself for the daunting but picturesque 9th hole, where a tiny green sits hundreds of feet below, engulfed by a daunting amount of water.
Alternatively, if you would rather relax, the spa has a huge array of relaxing treatments on offer, with excellent muscle working massages to help you recover from your sporting exertions.
After another evening enjoying the fantastic local wines with some classic Italian food, you will be well and truly initiated into the wonderful Tuscan daily routine, ready to sleep it all off and start again the next day.
