Origins
Built in 1757 originally belonging to the Hasbrouck family, Akiva Reich form Brooklyn-based Gowanus Hospitality and Eitan Baron together took this project from a dilapidated Dutch Colonial mansion to a luxury haven in just 11 months, restoring all the original features in line with local and federal state preservation regulations and the national historic registry due to the building’s immense historical value.
Top Secret
Take a short walk through the woods down to the lake, to your left you will find a bench and readymade firepit to enjoy while the sun sets on the most perfect view.
The Review
Pulling up at Hasbrouck House is akin to arriving at the home of your long lost rich and eccentric American uncle. From the curiously characterful squirrels peeking out from behind the cadet grey painted antique automobile bearing the H/H insignia to the cheery groundsman waving atop a ladder as he picks pine needles for the evening’s ice cream Hasbrouck House is a veritable cornucopia of Disney birdsong, fragrant flora and fauna and good old fashioned All-American preppy charm.
A tour of the bright and airy rooms shows off many of the unique architectural quirks that differentiate each of the 19 suites, which follow a navy and leather theme each feature sheepskin swathed king-sized bedsteads with fancy Frette linen, a unique persian rug and a locally sourced vintage furniture. In fact, most of the art, furnishings and fittings come from the surrounding community in keeping with the Hudson Valley’s local-first ethos.
Hasbrouck House is blessed with a wide selection of outdoorsy activities within easy reach of the hotel. On site guests may enjoy the 100-year-old Gatsby-eque outdoor pool, complete with its fully serviced bar and rocking sunloungers. – Painstakingly restored, the pool area is a paradisal suntrap framed by a succession of young trees lending it Hamptons/Italian Riviera vibes.
Butterfield the restaurant is a farm-to-table marvel with fluid menus that change according to the season, produce availability and, in all honesty, the whims of the chef's sheer genius. Catering to both vegan and meateaters alike, Butterfield focuses on healthy delicious American fare that abandons the traditional tastes in favour of ambitious infusions, substitutions and flavour pairings.
