Origins
Created by a team of Indonesians, Kayumanis Jimbaran was originally built for long-term stays and people who wanted to imagine Bali as a home. Eventually, this business model changed to accommodate honeymoon couples and families traveling around Indonesia. Still, even if a guest is just passing by, the long-term ethos is palpable. It’s no wonder that about a fifth of hotel guests return to the property.
Top Secret
Amazing local shacks that offer seafood dinners for reasonable prices can be found a short walk away from the property. Also, feel free to bring your own bottles of wine. The staff will happily uncork these for you at no extra cost.
The Review
This property celebrates romance, all things sensual, and is designed to harness love and affection. Watching couples walk hand-in-hand through the lush, dramatically lit estate is not an uncommon sight. Whether in the spa or at the hotel’s restaurant, the staff take every opportunity to create intensely intimate experiences.
Beyond the honeymoon vibe, the strength of Kayumanis lies in its dialogue with the local context, on which it depends to produce its spectacle. Bali and Balinese culture are not incidental to the property but central to it. An Indonesian version of Tropical Minimalism is being made here, and, infused with romance, settling in easy to do. The understated villas --which resemble cosy holiday homes – come complete with yoga mats in the closets, a ready-to-be-used stove in the kitchen, and a stack of movies that invoke nostalgia. Creating homes that honour local Balinese culture rather than anomalous hotel rooms seems to be the motto and priority of the Kayumanis team. Moreover, this thinking is achieved with environmental sensibility – everything down from the cinnamon encased pens in the hotel stationery kit to the minimal use of plastic emphasizes the local and the long-term.
