The Review
On arrival, guests are treated to a glass of champagne. Walking around the hotel, the warm, soft tones of yellows and terracotta, stunning flower arrangements and the scenic vineyard backdrop give way to a Tuscan-feel that immediately makes you feel like you are somewhere special.
On waking up in our grand bed, we made our way to the breakfast buffet which was delightful. Freshly baked goods, cereal, fruit, eggs, sausages, meats and cheeses coupled with champagne, tea, coffee and juices; the breakfast room had a warm fire at one end and offered guests the choice to eat outside too, with a view of the vineyard.
Following breakfast, we sat by the pool - on a large lounger for two - and enjoyed the warm sun with iced water on tap and poolside service which offered a variety of drinks and light snacks. We had a dip in the pool and there was also a Jacuzzi for when the weather cooled. For those who got restless, they could play a game of bocce and for the real loungers, there was a hammock to lay back on and escape in blissful surroundings.
Leaving the hotel for lunch was an ample opportunity to explore the local area. We dined at the R+D Kitchen which had a large outdoor area for drinks and alfresco dining. There were also many other restaurants to choose from, whether it be pizza at Redd Wood or for those that like fine dining, book a 9-course meal at French Laundry.
After lunch, we visited some local wine tasting rooms – from cheese and wine pairings to sparkling wine tastings, there is something for everyone; and what better way to end the day than by buying a local wine and enjoying it back at the lodge, around the fire and under the stars.
