Developers Oleg Pavlov and Seth Schumer introduced the micro-hotel brand Arlo into the crowded NYC hotel market in 2014. The brand balances recognisability with individuality: each hotel in the Arlo brand looks like an Arlo hotel, but it its feel is derived from its specific location—in NoMad’s case, midtown Manhattan.

Stumble onto the terrace off BARlo. Sip a delicious cocktail named after the last stops on all the major subway lines. We recommend the Wakefield, a mix of rum, carpano antico, cherries, and oranges.
The Review
Despite being the younger sibling to Arlo SoHo by two months, Arlo NoMad presents itself as the older sibling. The vibe is grown up but not fussy, trendy but not loud, work-oriented but not corporate. Guests and visitors consist of a combination of tourists looking to explore nearby sites, such as the Empire State Building, and office-goers looking for a quiet nook to work or relax.
Like Arlo SoHo, the hotel offers plenty of public spaces to work and hang out—including a cozy, warmly-lit, library with lots of comfortable lounge chairs and couches. These spaces were well used but did not feel crowded.
As a micro-hotel, rooms are tiny (150 sq. ft.) but the expansive, city views make the rooms feel larger than they are. We recommend the Sky Rooms, which make you feel suspended between skyscrapers. Arlo NoMad provides its guests high-end basic essentials: high-quality sheets, walnut wood accents, and generous toiletries.
The rooftop bar (open from spring-fall) on the 31st floor is unmissable. It offers divine views of the East River, and the Empire State building is practically close enough to touch. We spent a luxurious, summer afternoon here, listening to soft reggae deep cuts, while sipping on Aperol spritzes. As we looked around, it seemed everyone shared the same feeling—of utter relaxation in the heart of Manhattan and just damn lucky to be there.
