Origins
The oldest jungle lodge in the region, La Selva remains a true pioneer and capitalises on years of experience in providing guests a taste of the rainforest. They have been certified with the Rainforest Alliance as the most ecological lodge in all the Ecuadorian Amazon. Created over 30 years ago, the lodge has benefited from a major revamp in 2012, meaning guests can relax in the height of comfort alongside the amazing isolation found here.
Top Secret
The hotel resides on the banks of a blackwater lake, Garzacocha, deriving its name from the many species of heron (Garza) that are resident here. For the true Amazonian adventurer, guests are free to kayak and even swim in the lagoon here – keep an eye out for the piranhas!
The Review
Paddling towards the charming La Selva lodge, guests find themselves in the heart of a tranquil jungle lagoon stemming from the banks of the Rio Napo. Deep within the Amazon of Ecuador, this enchanting spot bordering the Yasuní National Park provides the opportunity to experience truly stunning tropical rainforest.
Despite the remote location, La Selva excels in its cuisine, offering guests a range of dishes created with thought, passion and skill. Zesty quinoa salads, rich on-the-bone lamb and diverse fresh buffet options make sure each expedition promises a delicious return to base. When combined with the careful care paid by the hotel staff, its effortless to forgot the demands of the outside world.
During your stay, a fascinating array of activities are organised to meet and understand the spectacular local flora and fauna. From canoe rides along the lagoon, parrot clay lick excursions, night hikes and even a spot of piranha fishing, guests have countless opportunities to spot exotic creatures.
Alongside the encyclopaedic knowledge of the expert guides, time at La Selva lodge also provides cultural understanding with a visit to the local Pilche community. Traditional customs, typical cuisine and a chance to test your blowpipe skills are a great way to understand how native groups live successfully in such a challenging environment.
Alongside kayaking, sunbathing and yoga sessions, La Selva uniquely operates the only spa in the region, where guests can choose from a range of treatments and afterwards soak in the luxury-size jacuzzi. With an accompanying natural soundtrack, this jungle delight will transport you to a new level of relaxation.
