The owner of Leobo coined the activity ‘helicopter paintballing’ while enjoying time there with friends. For an extra fee, guests can take to the skies in a helicopter and fire paintballs at their friends on quad bikes below. (Extremely fun!)
The Review
The Observatory takes its name from the 7m tower shaped library, crowned with an automated rotating copper dome from California, which houses a 20-inch telescope and even a solar scope. Designed by renowned architects the house is a special adventure in itself – rational and carefully thought through, but designed to provide experiences, surprises and delights around every corner.
The Observatory has an ultra-stylish but liveable design and has four-bedrooms that can accommodate six adults and three or four children. Built on the top of a hill facing west to capture the setting sun, with four poster beds, egg shaped baths and open-air showers Leobo offers the perfect setting to hunker down and lose your heart. The bedrooms all have spectacular views and boast large spacious en-suite bathrooms, each of them equipped with open fireplaces, countless accessories and a daybed for relaxing. The master bedroom has a large four poster bed with mosquito net and a Bowers and Wilkins audio system. The different fabrics and textures give an incredible feeling to the residents.
Offering breath-taking views over Palala Valley, Leobo has a great African style design. Benefitting from a heated infinity pool, with exquisite views and a relaxing rooftop Jacuzzi, guests can relax and unwind after a day out on safari. With a plethora of places to chill-out and socialise, guests are invited to relax in any of the soft seated areas in the house, or gather around the sunken fire pit for a typical African sundowner.
Leobo Private Reserve is a completely private 20,000-acre estate located in Waterberg Mountains. The Waterberg Mountains are a true natural gem of South Africa and visitors marvel at the ancient mountains and rock art, the incredible biodiversity, and archaeological and paleontological treasures. It is a popular safari destination to observe the African wildlife too. Leobo guests are flown or driven to a neighbouring Big 5 reserve to see the iconic elephant and lion but Leobo prefers to have no dangerous game on the property enabling much more freedom for families to enjoy many more outdoor activities safely. Leobo is teeming with giraffe, zebra, antelope, wildebeest, warthog, and birdlife. There are also plenty of hippo, a small herd of buffalo and a few crocodiles. More recently a pack of wild dog have made Leobo their home. Apart from safari, other outdoor activities include fishing, horse riding, camping out, quad biking, bird watching, hiking, rock climbing, target shooting, river beach picnics and R&R.
