Expert Review

Origins

Since 2004, experienced hoteliers Chris and Trish Denny have worked hard to establish a hotel that achieves both world-class service and a positive environmental impact. In May 2012, The Observatory became one of the few hotels in Australia to become 100% carbon-neutral and The Observatory team continues to look for ways to improve its carbon and environmental footprint through striving to implement new energy, water and waste saving initiatives. This emphasis on sustainability mirrors Chris and Trish’s passion for service, and alongside its ‘greener’ focus The Observatory has been highly decorated with a number of well-deserved hospitality and tourism awards since its opening.

Top Secret

If you opt for The Observatory’s ‘O-Zone’ Package, amongst a host of other green goodies, staff will plant a tree in recognition of your contribution to the local environment.

The Review

In a country with so much to offer by way of the natural world, it’s hard to know how to pack everything in. In Port Macquarie you can experience it all: beautiful beaches, coastal walks, humpback whale watching, wine tours and the world famous Koala Hospital.
The Observatory offers the ‘greener’ traveller the perfect base from which to do this. Centrally located with stunning coastal and ocean views, a spa in the same building and only a short distance from the local airport, this 100% carbon-neutral hotel offers a home-from-home for anyone looking for an active but relaxing break.
The Ocean view apartments offer a spacious and modern design with impressive floor to ceiling glass bi-fold doors, opening on to a large balcony in which to enjoy the spectacular views over Town Beach. Guests have the option to self cater, eating amongst the sea air on your private balcony, or alternatively, dining at the excellent affiliated restaurants, only a stone-throw away. The staff at The Observatory offer impeccable service, giving the impression that each guest is the first that they have ever looked after. Striving for perfection, there is no task too big and they are more than happy to help wherever possible.
From the beautiful beaches to the Endota day spa, The Observatory offers the opportunity for sheer relaxation and rejuvenation. For those that seek adventure, take a short ten minute walk and you will be able to take a once in a lifetime day trip to go whale-watching; just a short way off the coast, hump-back whales are seen migrating on their journey to the south.
It’s the friendly nature of the locals and quintessential easy-going Australian atmosphere that sets both the hotel and its affiliated businesses apart.
