The Journal
Sofia Marchetti is a food and travel writer who follows the plate wherever it leads — usually to a small hotel with a serious kitchen. Raised in Bologna and trained as a sommelier, she covers wine country, farm stays and the restaurants worth planning a trip around. Sofia writes about the places where hospitality and gastronomy are inseparable: the vineyard estate with a handful of rooms, the village trattoria with a cook who won't retire, the market you should visit before breakfast. She's practical about bookings and passionate about producers, and she never trusts a hotel that can't make a decent coffee. Her features aim to send readers home with a full notebook and a longer wish list. Between assignments she teaches the occasional pasta class and argues, cheerfully, about the correct ragù.
