Stepping through the gates of 137 Pillars House feels like slipping into a sepia-toned postcard — lotus ponds shimmer in the sunlight, dragonflies dance above foliage, and the scent of lemongrass drifts through the trees. We were greeted with chilled towels and iced butterfly pea tea before being led past the historic Jack Bain house to our palatial suite: a blend of antique furnishings, four-poster beds, and modern indulgence (hello, outdoor shower).
Mornings began with fresh fruit and Thai rice porridge on the verandah, while afternoons melted away beside the turquoise-tiled pool shaded by trees. The spa lured us in with its heady aromas of kaffir lime and galangal, and dinner at Palette was a dream of candlelight, Lanna cuisine, and attentive grace. Come nightfall, the property hummed with cicadas and the soft glow of lanterns — a world away from the buzz of Chiang Mai. We left reluctantly, hearts full and cameras overloaded
