Top Secret
Kifaru House is named after the Swahili word for ‘rhino’ – reflecting the setting’s abundance of amazing African wildlife.
The Review
Lying just south of Isiolo in northern Kenya, the Lewa Conservancy is a vast and spectacular sight for those who are feeling wearied by city life – and a UNESCO World Heritage Site to boot. This wildlife sanctuary lies over 62,000 acres (or 222-square-km), incorporating the Ngare Ndare Forest and boasting high-profile inhabitants such as black rhinos, Grevy’s zebras and sitatungas, along with the ‘Big Five’ of lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos and Cape buffaloes.
In the midst of all this natural beauty lies Kifaru House – a luxury boutique hotel that places the focus firmly on relaxation, allowing you to kick back and enjoy everything this beautiful region has to offer. Accommodation comes in the form of five cosy thatched cottages, each appointed with four-poster beds, en-suite bathrooms and glorious views of the plains. One has both a double and a single room that makes it perfect for families, while the remaining four make a romantic spot for a getaway a deux.
The safari itself is of course the main attraction – with so much scenery to drink in, and so many animals to spot, days sparkle with magic (thanks in no small part to the house’s excellent local guides). Kifaru House is a delightful spot to return to – from the infinity pool stretched out under vast African skies, to relaxing by the log fire in the lounge after a long day on safari (and an all-inclusive meal al fresco). Not only that, but the Lewa Conservancy does extensive work in local outreach, working with tribal communities to develop healthcare, finance and water projects – and Kifaru House has been built to have minimal environmental impact.
