Expert Review
Origins
The hotel stands on the site of the original Idhof hotel dating back to 1435. On 30 August 1673, a fire that began during meat-smoking at the Idhof destroyed almost the entire village and a stately baroque house was built on the side of the Idhof. In 1881, Ignaz Heiss expanded the inn, adding a stately extension. His son the ‘tourist pioneer of Ischgl’ took over the Post and it has remained within the same family to this day.
The hotel remains in the family today, with siblings Daniela and Michael Wolf as the sixth generation working alongside their mother Evi Wolf.
Top Secret
• TBar 67 — named for the hotel's address at Dorfstraße 67 — carries 67 cocktails on the menu, with the bar staff making anything off it.
•Michael Wolf, the sixth-generation owner-in-waiting, leads guest hikes and ski tours personally — tailored itineraries, and the address of the best poppy-seed cake in the village

The Review
Whilst many have tried to replicate the casual cosy-ness of a traditional Alpine hotel, there is an effortlessness to the Post Hotel which shows an effortlessness the imitators miss. Forget glitz; this is the older Austrian register, quietly held
The Post Hotel has really thought of everything. For Winter, there are dedicated ski rooms, rental facilities literally seconds away and the Silvretta Arena's runs at the door catering to every level. In Summer, the wellness facilities can keep you occupied for days on end but there are also a multitude of walking options, bicycle trails and scenic drives to keep you busy. The Post is distinctive because every effort is made to tailor the experience to your own personal preferences. The in-house guide Michael will prepare itineraries that you can enjoy either on your own or in a group and everything is done with a sense of humour and without fuss
The food and wine — typically taken half-board — are the property's strongest suit. The gourmet menu offers four mains plus a vegetarian alternative; Wednesday has a large starter buffet, Friday a dessert buffet. The quality of the food and service is the reason guests return and the generosity shows in the locally-sourced ingredients, much of it organic produce from the property's own farm
The Post distinguishes itself by tailoring the stay to guest preferences. From day-to-day and ensure all your requests are taken care of. If you fancy something slightly off-piste for dinner, the chefs will cater to your individual requests. The rooms and bathrooms are sensitive to the building's history without forgoing modern comfort
Overall, the Post Hotel is distinctive because the service feels personalized and homely but at the same time the facilities and activities on offer are diverse enough to cater for all needs and preferences. For us, the hotel encapsulated the romance of the Alps with modern amenities of the highest standard and we were inspired enough to get engaged while we were there.
