Origins
Salinda was conceived, from the ground up, as a resort that would tread lightly. It sits on the sunset-facing west coast of Phu Quoc, Vietnam's largest island, off the country's south-western tip in the Gulf of Thailand, a place of white-sand beaches, jungle interior and famous evening skies. The resort opened in the mid-2010s as an independent, owner-run property, and that personal ownership shows in its character.
Two things set it apart. The first is art: the co-founder, Madame Huyền, has filled the resort with her own collection of Vietnamese painters, emerging and established, hung along the walkways and in the restaurants, complemented by hand-painted de Gournay wallpaper depicting island marine life. The second is a genuine, unusually thorough commitment to sustainability, built in from the start rather than added later: a salt-filtered, chlorine-free pool, an on-site bottling plant that removes the need for plastic water bottles, eco-conscious materials in the architecture, and tropical gardens covering most of the grounds, planted with more than a hundred species. Add a near-Vietnamese standard of service, helped by a high staff-to-guest ratio, and Salinda reads as a personal, design-led resort with a conscience rather than a corporate beach hotel.
