Expert Review
Origins
Escape Haven was founded by Janine Hall and has run women-only retreats in Bali for well over a decade, one of the longer-established names in a crowded field. Like Bliss, the other women's retreat we list, it is built for women travelling alone or with a friend — but where Bliss is tiny and restful, Escape Haven is larger and more active, and that is the contrast worth drawing.
It takes up to 15 guests at a time on a six-night, Saturday-to-Friday programme, and the defining feature is the choice of activity package: Revive for surfing, Refresh for yoga, Renew for fitness, and an Ayurveda track. The day is yours to set — a morning activity (or not), an hour of spa, sunset yoga, and meals throughout — with a personal facilitator to shape it around you. For solo travellers, the company of the other women is much of the point; many arrive as strangers and leave as friends.
The setting is Canggu, Bali's surf-and-yoga village on the southwest coast, with the retreat set on a river near Echo Beach and walkable to the area's well-known cafes and shops. Accommodation runs to five private villas plus two villas with private ensuite rooms and shared living, around a lagoon-style pool and tropical gardens, with a large spa team and private treatment rooms that are unusually serious for a retreat of this size. It is an all-inclusive programme rather than a conventional hotel stay — worth understanding before booking — but for the active, sociable end of the women's-retreat market, it is among Bali's most established.
Top Secret
The yoga shala has a story. It was sited in consultation with the local high priest to find the best spot within the grounds, then given a half-day blessing before use, and it sits above the meeting of two rivers — a location considered auspicious in Balinese tradition. Whatever you make of that, it is a lovely building in a genuinely well-chosen spot, and it is where much of the week happens.

The Review
Escape Haven is the larger and more active of the two women-only retreats we list in Bali, and that is the clearest way to place it against Bliss: where Bliss is tiny, soft and Seminyak-based, Escape Haven is bigger, busier and built around doing things. It takes up to 15 women at a time in surf-village Canggu, on six-night programmes organised around a choice of surf, yoga, fitness or Ayurveda.
The model is all-inclusive and women-only, which is the thing to understand before booking — you are buying a structured week with a facilitator, daily spa, sunset yoga and meals, not a room. The accommodation is comfortable, from private jacuzzi suites to shared-living villas, set around a lagoon pool and gardens, and the spa operation is genuinely substantial for a retreat. For solo travellers, the company of the group is much of the appeal.
The honest framing is the same as for any retreat of this kind: it lives or dies on whether you want the women-only, group, programme-led format, and Canggu's traffic means the airport is a real 60-to-90-minute haul. But for women who want an active, sociable reset — surfing, yoga, a full spa week — in Bali's most happening beach town, Escape Haven is one of the island's longest-running and most polished options.
