Origins
Hotel Woolstore 1888 in Sydney is a boutique hotel housed in a historic building originally constructed in 1888 as a wool store. Located in the Pyrmont area near Darling Harbour, the building was designed by architects Morell and Kemp and is notable for its Mannerist-style entrance and ironbark timber structure. It is the oldest surviving wool store with a saw-tooth roof in Sydney, ranking fourth among the 21 remaining in the city
The building was commissioned by J.H. Geddes, a pioneer in the wool industry and the first to adopt mechanical shearing equipment. Pyrmont became a hub for wool storage in the late 19th century due to its proximity to Darling Harbour’s rail and shipping services
In 1988, the building was converted into office spaces, and later became a hotel in the 2000s. The hotel has retained many original elements, including ironbark beams, double brick walls, and heritage desks crafted from salvaged timber. The Atrium was designed to showcase the building’s architecture from top to bottom
Today, Hotel Woolstore 1888 blends contemporary design with heritage features, offering guests a unique experience that reflects the building's rich history.

Set in a beautifully restored historic wool store, it combines a deep sense of Sydney’s heritage with modern luxury. Perfectly positioned near Sydney’s CBD yet far enough to offer a peaceful retreat, the hotel is an ideal choice for those eager to explore both the city and its vibrant surrounds. Just a short stroll from Pitt Street Mall and directly opposite Darling Harbour’s world-class dining, shopping, and late-night entertainment, the location is second to none
Designed with the modern traveller in mind, Hotel Woolstore 1888 embraces the philosophy of 'effortless living'. Apple TVS keep you connected to your favourite shows via iTunes, Stan, or Netflix, while iPads in every room and bedside USB ports ensure seamless connectivity. The complimentary mini bar, luxurious linens, down toppers, and plush pillows promise a blissful night’s sleep without the worry of mounting extras on your bill
Dining at the hotel is refreshingly simple and satisfying. The Lo Lounge serves fresh, artisanal breakfasts featuring fruits, breads, and other delicious bites. In the evening, enjoy complimentary canapés and drinks before sampling their ‘Nuevo Cuisine’ menu paired with selections from an internationally curated wine list
Music is woven into the hotel’s spirit, inspired by the ethos of 'Shiny, Happy People' — a mission to create joy not only for guests but also within the Ovolo team
A defining feature of Hotel Woolstore 1888 is its rich history. As one of Sydney’s earliest surviving wool stores, the building’s original exposed brickwork and ironbark beams blend harmoniously with contemporary art by renowned Australian artist Jasper Knight, highlighting the hotel's love of creativity and design
In short, a stay at Hotel Woolstore 1888 offers the best of both worlds: city adventure infused with historic charm, all delivered through the lens of effortless, tech-savvy luxury.
