Villa Mia began with a couple who bought a stretch of beachfront on Chaweng, Koh Samui's busiest and best-known beach, at a time when this northern tip of it was still undeveloped. They built a villa on the sand and named it after their young daughter, Mia, and over the years it grew into a small estate: the original Mia Beach was joined by Mia Palm and Mia Ocean, three villas of four to six bedrooms that can be booked on their own or together for a large group.
What sets it apart is simple, it is the only villa estate directly on Chaweng Beach, so guests get the sand and sea a few steps from the pool while the restaurants, bars and shops of Chaweng town are a short walk away. The villas are open-plan and single-storey, in a relaxed tropical style with cool blue-toned interiors and furniture from Chiang Mai, each arranged around its own long pool with a sunken sala. Unusually for a villa, the estate has a shared club house with a cinema, gym, kids' club and spa rooms, which makes it work particularly well for families and celebrations. Fully staffed, with a private chef, a villa manager and a masseuse on hand, and with the owners still closely involved in its upkeep, it is a polished, personal beachfront base on the liveliest part of the island.
